One Word

Faith· Family· Prayer

We have arrived in South Florida! Thank you so much to everyone who prayed for us during this time of packing, saying our goodbyes in Chicago, and now unpacking at our new home. While the transition has had its ups and downs, we are confident in God’s leading us here for such a time as this.

Many have asked for an update on my mom. She finished her radiation treatment and will be getting immunotherapy and hormone therapy for the next few months. The plan is that she will have repeat testing sometime in September to see if the treatment is working. But we are trusting that the cancer is on its way out!

One Word:

A few days after we heard that my mom had metastatic cancer, I read the “Faith of a Centurion” story in my Bible from Matthew 8:5-13. In this story, a Roman officer asked Jesus to heal his servant who was suffering and paralyzed. In His love and compassion, Jesus said that He would go to the officer’s home to heal him. The officer replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed” (v.8).  We read in verse 10 that when Jesus heard his response, Jesus “marveled” (ESV) or “was amazed” (NIV) because of the officer’s great faith. Jesus said, “Truly, I tell you, with no one in Israel have I found such faith.” The result was that his servant was healed at that very moment! Wow!

After I read this story, I asked God to give me bold faith to believe that He could heal my mom, just as He did for this officer’s servant. My prayer that I wrote in my Bible on May 31, 2022, was “Lord, may You be amazed at my great faith to heal my mom.”

One of our first Sundays here in South Florida, we tuned in to an online service for Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale. The worship leader explained that they were going to sing a new song called, “Just Say the Word.” Part of the lyrics are:

“You tell the mountains to move

And the earth bows down

Just say the word

I will believe what You say

Just say the word

Heaven and earth will obey

‘Cause when You speak

It will be done

Nothing can stop You

Just say the word”

I know that God has the power to heal my mom with just one word. I believe that one word of healing from God can destroy every cancer cell in mom’s body.

Will you join me in praying with great faith for her healing? May our prayers offered in faith amaze our Father in heaven and avail much here on earth.
