Thank you so much to everyone who has been praying for my mom and our family! We feel your prayers and your words of encouragement have been such a blessing to us during this time. While finding out my mom’s cancer had returned in the midst of trying to prepare for a cross-country move has been difficult, God has been so faithful to guide and sustain us step by step. He has made it clear in many ways that He has gone on the path before us to prepare a place for us in Florida.
We praise God that:
- Mom has started radiation and will start systemic treatment soon
- He gave us a beautiful new home just a few miles from my mom
- We sold our house in Chicago in a couple of days
- Rob has been enjoying his new job and his boss has been kind and gracious
- We have so many friends and family members who have offered rides, prayers, meals, and to help take care of the kids
- All three kids will be attending a Christian school in the fall (the same one I went to for high school)
Psalm 32:8 (NLT) says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.” God is our loving, patient, and perfect Guide through the ups and downs of life. He doesn’t just lead us down any pathway, but the best one for us. With God as our Guide, we have hope for today and tomorrow, even when He leads us down a road that was unexpected to us.
In her new book, Waymaker, Ann Voskamp writes:
“It’s a poverty of imagination that bankrupts hope. Even when you can’t imagine how He’s working, He’s working His way to you, working all things together for good, working out a good story because He is the Word, and He only ultimately writes good stories…Hope isn’t insisting on the way it’s imagined but has an imagination that whatever comes our way will be worked out for our good.”
Cancer has come our way, but we have hope because we trust in a God who works all things together for our good. I have to believe God is working out this season for our good in a way that my feeble mind cannot dream of today.
If you’re walking on a road right now that is difficult, I know how you feel. Hold fast to the God of all hope. He promises that He will guide you along the best path for your life. The Author of all our stories has a limitless imagination and unending love for us. He is worth following.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
(Rom. 15:13)
